crunchy leaves on the ground

Posted by Trey on September 25, 2006

Lucky us, we have a four-day weekend to look forward to in November. :) Who knew that selling magazines could be so rewardng?

Happy 2 days into Autumn, by the way! Autumn really is an amazing season, what with the breezy weather and the color-changing trees. Extreme wind (like last Friday) is no good though, especially for us asthma-stricken folk. It makes difficult Latin choral music even more difficult to sing.

I’m currently attempting to study for an AP English quiz tomorrow, yet poetic lyrics are distracting me. It’s a good distraction, in all honesty. Why is it that when it hits a certain time of the year, work seems to be irrelevant to life? Well, from a philosophical standpoint, homework is irrelevant to the bigger picture. (Can you tell I just finished/printed my Philosophy journal? Remind me sometime to start sharing those Philosophy raps…)

Stage Door and fashion show rehearsal tomorrow…let’s hope my feet don’t fall off! Cheers!

updates, updates, updates!

So my Chalk-It-Up post won’t go forgotten…

Amanda “Crash” and I sang a duet (“Seasons of Love”) after she sang two songs. Crash is a trained classical singer and her main genre is opera. Naturally, she has one of those amazing voices that you just take notice of and my voice balanced that out nicely because it’s of such a different quality (and admittedly nowhere as near as perfect as Crash’s!). We’ve sung duets before, including a liturgy performance of Joan Osborne’s “One Of Us”. I’d post the video that my sister took of our performance except that when the file was compressed, the video became really choppy and you can barely put two and two together! But I have screen captures…

The duet was fun and while my second verse entrance was pretty off, I fixed it quickly and the harmony sounded good. I’ll admit, it was a rushed decision to sing “Seasons of Love” but we had practiced pretty thoroughly enough last year when we sang it for Loretto on Tour. All in all, a fun moment!

For the past several weeks, I’ve been in rehearsal for Stage Door, Loretto’s fall drama production. Stage Door is a 1930s comedy set in New York about young actresses trying to make it big onstage. (A movie version starring Katharine Hepburn was made back in 1937, but the only similarities to the play are a few character names and a loose version of the plot.) My character, Bernice Niemeyer (great name, huh?), provides one of the several comedic relief moments in the show. She is a zany and naive wannabe actress who isn’t a very good actress herself because she dislikes going to auditions.

So far, rehearsals have been tiring, but fun. I’ve gotten closer to a lot of people that I know and it’s always fun being in a play with your best friend! This weekend, my life is devoted to more rehearsals and tomorrow we’ll be doing headshots for the program.

Lastly, fashion show practices begin next Thursday. (Unfortunately enough, I’ll be missing the Grey’s Anatomy premiere, which I’m entirely upset about.) My fittings are scheduled over the course of the next week also and I will be in a portion of the show entitled “Flashdance to the 80’s” and another scene called “Follow My Lead”. I don’t know much about the scenes yet (ie music, dancing, etc.) but I’ll find out soon! I can’t believe the fashion show is in 2 weeks, it feels like it’s months away…

And that’s all for now…Wish me luck for the coming chaos, ciao!

hollywood has-been

Posted by Trey on September 13, 2006

Beo-Poem, anyone? Granted AP English is not my favorite class in the world (sadly enough…I really wanted to love the class!), this assignment was pretty fun. (Who knows: possible song?)

Big screen beauty with a Hollywood face;

red carpet walkways used to be her place.

Riding in her black chariot with guy after guy,

and caught up in parties and scandalous lies.

Not very wise about the choices she made.

Here comes the camera crowd to decide her fate!

Now she’s only in magazines as a laughing joke.

She’s forced to read the gossip that other people wrote.

No more movie deals to showcase herself;

her awards sit to rust on a high, forgotten shelf.

Headlines read, “Fallen Star, Fallen From Grace”

and supermarket tabloids increase her shame.

Broken spirits and heart are hidden from sight,

but she’s not ready to give up without a fight.

Directors at auditions beat her pride into pain,

so now her only work is a small part on a small stage.

Every Friday night she appears as “Girl #3”,

forsaken by stardom as a “has been”.

She realizes the brutality of the Hollywood game

and now her six minutes a night are spent reprising her fame.

falling all over the place

Posted by Trey on September 7, 2006

Whatever happened to paper planes and sand castle days?
When did that innocence all fade away?
If growing up meant falling in love
Then why did “sorry” mean saying “goodbye”?

Chorus of a song in progress. Don’t you just love trains of thought that get stuck in a jam? The guitar happens to be quite the friend to my writing though, so it’s trucking along nicely.

And more to come once I feel wider awake, but for now, it’s back to the torture we all know as “homework”…

PS) I’ve noticed that when it comes to theatre, I tend to get physical comedy down best. It’s a blessing and curse, especially when it’s decided it’s “cute” to be pushed around! :P
