you’re invited…

First dress rehearsal for Stage Door is tonight…I’ll admit, I’m not too thrilled about being at the theatre until 10pm…ah, the things we do for the stage…

So it’s not that we don’t appreciate the costumes, but that doesn’t mean we necessarily have to like them. Okay, they’re not too horrible (with a few exceptions), but come on, how is most of this stuff period clothing? We did the research too, you know…But maybe this is just spoiled complaining. Oh well, every ranter has the right to rant.

We open onWednesday. Well, technically Thursday, but preview night is Wednesday, so really it’s Wednesday. Exciting times! Hopefully I’ll snap a few pictures for the crowd out there. Come watch!

nature…

Posted by Trey on October 9, 2006

Yesterday at the farmers’ market, a small stand was selling two baby pumpkins for a dollar so guess what I did? :) They’re sitting up in my room now and just anticipating the Halloween season. I’ll admit, my least favorite part about this Halloween deal is the BOO moments. You know what I’m talking about…when you’re walking through an aisle at Target or someplace and those motion sensor Halloween decorations make sudden movements or sounds? It terrifies me…

Last week in Philosophy we talked about nature (again) and it’s so amazing what comes to mind when you really sit and think. How often in our culture do we manipulate nature for ourselves? “These flowers aren’t as pretty as I hoped so I’m going to pull them out” or “That tree branch is whacking the side of my house, I’m going to chop it off”…When in all honesty, the flowers don’t care if they’re not pretty enough and the tree branch could care less that it’s attacking your property. We want the grass to grow around our structures and the fruit trees to give us what we desire. We don’t want the leaves to leave a mess on our lawn. But again…nature doesn’t care. It’s being nature. Can you blame it?

How often do we in our daily lives do what we really want, consequences and lectures aside? Truthfully, not very often. At least I don’t. In school, there’s a structure to adhere to. Maybe that’s what’s so freeing about Daoism and nature, not the whole “let’s do whatever we want,” but the return to nature.

Okay. So none of this makes sense if you’re not in Philosophy or if you don’t understand Daoism, which is totally understandable. But hey, a girl can ramble, can’t she? :)

shall we dance?

Posted by Trey on October 2, 2006

“This is what Senior Year is. Not the classes or the applications or the stress. Senior Year is about stuff like this, the Fashion Show and friends.”

Janelle and I sure sum it up well!

Last Saturday, the 30th, was Shall We Dance?, Loretto’s senior fall fashion show which included yours truly. After months of painfully long and tedious rehearsals, it all paid off and now I’m sad it’s over.

My first scene was called “Flashdance to the 80’s” and it featured a medley of “Maniac”, “Footloose”, and “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go”. It was hard to learn and went pretty fast, but it was super fun and Diana did a fabulous job of opening up the scene. The lunch show was a better performance for me than the dinner show, I think. Either way, it was still super fun. My outfit was alright, although expensive (as they ALL were)…black capris (because, as Taylor James so kindly informed me at my fitting, I’m short), a pink tank top, and a black sequined blouse.

About five scenes later, I was back onstage in “Follow My Lead” which featured the songs “September” and “Dancing in the Moonlight”. I loved my dress from Pinkadot’s but it was, again, expensive. It was a white halter dress with a black rose belt. The dance was fun, but harder to do in heels.

Finally came the finale which is a big dancing celebration of everyone in the show and it sure was a party!

Backstage was chaotic, but fun, and I enjoyed getting to know some people in my class better, including Monica who is also one of my Stage Door buddies. Speaking of Stage Door, now it’s on to concentrating on those rehearsals because the play is approaching soon…The stage was built over the weekend and now the cast is (supposed to be) off-book. Headshots came in and the program is being put together…Exciting times!

Now this is what I call Senior Year :)
